Energy Industry
Edition

Overview

The MBZIRC Energy Industry Edition is an advanced robotics competition that pushes the boundaries of autonomous systems in complex industrial environments. Organized as part of the Mohamed Bin Zayed International Robotics Challenge (MBZIRC) and in partnership with ADNOC, this competition focuses on advancing autonomous robotic technologies for the inspection, operation, and maintenance of oil and gas infrastructure — where human access requires extensive and time-consuming safety preparation.

Participants are required to develop unified autonomous robotic systems capable of mapping facilities, navigating open and confined spaces, inspecting critical equipment, performing operations and maintenance under human supervision, and reporting findings with prioritised actions. The challenge emphasises technical maturity, safety, robust perception, and field-ready engineering, enabling robots to operate reliably in confined, hazardous, and unpredictable conditions.

With a strong emphasis on real-world impact, the MBZIRC Energy Industry Edition attracts leading commercial robotics teams from around the world. It offers a substantial prize pool and a unique opportunity for teams to demonstrate market-ready systems, compete with the world’s leading robotics innovators, and open doors to commercial opportunities in the energy sector, while contributing to the next generation of autonomous systems that increase human safety and operational efficiency.
